Awards of Excellence

WINNERS ANNOUNCED FOR 2011 AWARDS
The Awards of Excellence, recognises the work of the successful companies, their employees and the skills required for their outstanding contribution to meet the needs of the packaging and processing industry. These Awards acknowledge the contribution the industry makes to the Australian economy and are a symbol of research, innovation, efficiency, sales and profit by many companies. A winner of an Association Award of Excellence can be justly proud of their achievement.

With changes in technology an Award entry will now be considered as it relates to a tangible business benefit to the manufacturer and the end user. The company entering the APPMA Awards of Excellence together with that company's customer will both receive industry recognition.

The Awards are: -

Export Achievement Award

The recipient will have made a worthwhile contribution to an existing or new export market.

Contributions can include establishing a new market, achieving a significant increase in sales by both the supplier and the customer, identifiable by monetary gain from an export activity. It can also be any developed packaging or processing machinery sold into overseas markets which contributes to improved business outcome, efficiency, sales and profit increases.

THE WINNER - ACCUWEIGH / BUDPAK - Contact - Mr Jim Lambros

The Award was for the PLA-G series of net weighers. The PLA-G series of net weighers are designed for high speed, high accuracy weighing of free flowing products in capacities from 500g up to 3000g. Almost 100 weighers have been exported to Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam and Papua New Guinea. Machines have been sent further afield to New Zealand and Venezuela

Design Award

The Design Award will recognise the development of a packaging or processing line or module that results in the significant advancement of packaging and processing machinery technology by either introducing a new idea or modifying an existing principle.

The design concept and implmentation are weighted highly in the award decision, where better business performance must be achieved.

THE WINNER - MATTHEWS AUSTRALASIA - Contact - Mr Lester Nichol

The Award was for the iDSnet. iDSnet is a solution to a problem for a huge component of the manufacturing sector - certainly all food and packaging companies with coding and packaging errors. Traceability and quality assurance has become and increasingly important over the last decade and this need has been identified and a solution provided.

Customer Participation Award

This Award has a major emphasis on the customisation of packaging and processing machinery which is required to suit a customer's individual needs. The winner, individual or team will be able to demonstrate that the end user has expereinced increased sales, increased plant efficiency and profitability.

Customer improved outcomes will form a very large element of the Award decision.

THE WINNER - FIBRE KING - Contact - Mr Earl Roberts

The Award is for the development of the Laminator / Tray Erector in partnership withn Amcor Australia. The project has highlighted a substantial increase in productivity with a reduced number of operations Amcor require to construct a tray which speeds up the production line, reduces costs and increases transport and storage efficiencies of the product, all to the end use customers benefit.

Imported Equipment Award

This Award is to recognise the efforts of an APPMA Member/a Company eligible to be a APPMA Member who promotes their overseas principal's equipment in the Australian market, where the equipment in itself represents a high standard of excellence in every respect relevant to the industry consistent with the standard applied.

The equipment must be principally designed by an overseas supplier who is represented by an APPMA Member/Company eligible to be an APPMA Member applying for the Award. Any developed packaging or processing machinery sold into Australia must demonstrate an increase in efficiency, sales and profit.

THE WINNER - insignia - Contact - Mr Jack Winsom

The Award to insignia stood out for its ability, using the Domino M - series label applicator, to print and apply labels to cartons at high speed. This ability allows the technology to be used by the high volume, high speed manufacturers where potential savings are considerable. The ability of the high speed system creates the opportunity to reduce packaging inventory, reduce carton loss and line change over times.
